The Board meets on a monthly basis from September through May to discuss and decide issues of interest to the club. Please consider volunteering for a Board or Adjunct position. It is a satisfying way to make a contribution to a club that has helped you to enjoy skiing and friendship on the slopes.
Information about each Board position follows, from the Bylaws and current practice:
| President This is a job for someone who likes to see the big picture. Responsibilities include leading the general meetings, running the Board meetings, see that Board resolutions are carried out, writing a monthly column for the newsletter, and generally assuring that things are running smoothly. The Bylaws also state the President should represent the WSTC in its public relations and dealings with any agency or organization. Vice President (Publicity,New Members) The VP is a fun job for someone who is outgoing and knowledgeable about all aspects of the club and enjoys chatting with and encouraging prospective new members. In recent years the VP has hosted new-member orientation sessions at 6:30 before club meetings, and also represents the club at public functions. Responsible for WSTC publicity activities, including distributing club brochures to a variety of outdoor shops, responds to messages left on the Club’s voicemail, and mails club brochures, newsletters, and waivers to prospective new members. S/he performs all duties of the President in his or her absence or disability. Treasurer The Treasurer is a great position for someone who is handy with numbers. Responsibilities include: Collect all money due the WSTC, hold and disburse WSTC funds as directed by the Board, maintain all financial records (in Quicken) in a permanent, organized format which can be inspected by an auditing committee, if necessary. The Treasurer is a signatory to the WSTC's checking account, and makes semiannual treasury reports to the Board and to the membership. In past years the Treasurer has shared the mail pickup at our P.O. Box with the Secretary. Secretary The Secretary keeps records and minutes of the Board of Directors' meetings, maintains a database (MS Access) of current information on members, including their names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers, and type of membership. Also keeps the files of signed waivers of liability, and maintains a permanent record of the club’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. At the club meeting the Secretary signs up new and renewing members. Members at Large Generally a job shared by 2-3 people, the Members at Large are responsible for planning and scheduling programs and presenters for the membership meetings, including arranging the logistics with REI. Arrangements for the facilities and setup for our season open and close potlucks also fall to this job. Susan Batchelor Michael Fagin |
Trip Co-Coordinators Trips are at the heart of the club. This job, usually shared by 2 people, assembles all the trips into a trip list which is published each month in the newsletter and on the web site. Trip coordinators bring trip signup sheets to the monthly meetings. Much of the work of this job entails the recruiting of trip leaders, by organizing previous trip leaders to volunteer again, as well as getting new trips and trip leaders set up. Ron Steingold Conservation The Conservation Officer maintains WSTC awareness of conservation and environmental issues that affect the opportunities and locations where WSTC members may engage in cross country skiing. This position also represents the WSTC in dealings with agencies or organizations that are relevant to environment and conservation issues. Finally, this person makes recommendations for the Club’s contributions from our Conservation Fund. Training The Training Coordinator organizes training clinics for club members throughout the ski year. Classes have included MOFA (Mountain-Oriented First Aid – coordinated with the Washington Alpine Club), Tele Extravaganza at Stevens Pass, coordinating arrangements to participate in evening Tele Classes at Snoqualmie, as well as weekend ski clinics at the Pass.
Newsletter/Publications Coordinator This position is responsible for the publication of the WSTC Newsletters and WSTC Rosters. This requires skill in Word or another layout program such as Pagemaker or Publisher. The newsletter is put together in about 5 days in the middle of the month, and this person coordinates with the mailing coordinator and secretary to get the newsletters out by the mailing deadline. Webmaster The Webmaster job requires the necessary computer skills to maintain and update our web site, maintain and administer the SkiTalk email list, and respond to queries that the web site email receives. Web queries are often routed to the full Board or appropriate Board member for consideration and response. Adjunct Positions Mailing Party This person provides the service of seeing that the printed newsletter gets in the mail. Newsletters are folded, stapled and stickered with address labels, and sorted into zip codes. Nordic Patrol Coordinator The Nordic Patrol Coordinator organizes the schedule of volunteer hosts for patrol weekends at Mt Rainer and acts as a liaison between club member volunteer hosts and the park service. |
