Nordic Ski Patrol
|
Since 1993, many club members have enjoyed participating in a volunteer
ski patrol at Mount Rainier National Park during the Winter season. Our club helps out by setting poles to mark the trails, and helps to be the "eyes and ears" of the Park Service. which does not have the resources to be everywhere at once. Each year the Club has been instrumental in assisting with a lost or injured skier and could be first on the scene if an accident or mishap occurs. Nordic Patrol participants carry Walkie Talkies and can help make sure the right kind of help gets to where it needs to be as soon as possible.
WSTC has provided more than 12,000 hours of volunteer service since 1994! In 2005 alone, 49 patrollers provided 856 hours. Four contributed 32 or more hours, 5 gave 32 hours, and 40 joined us for 24 or fewer hours. The Park service is grateful for our efforts and the contribution that we make to the guests’ experience. |

Patrol sign-ups mainly occur at club meetings, contact Lynn Tucker if you are interested. Up to eight skiers can be accommodated overnight in housing provided by the Park Service.
Schedule of Nordic Patrol Events:As you know, there was huge flood damage to the Park at Mt. Rainer in November 2006. We still do not know what will happen with Nordic Ski Patrol for this coming season. Check out this slide show to see photos of the flood damage.
